Are you a Garden Hound?

 

I’m afraid I do not have a green thumb.

 

I can handle a few flowers and plants in containers to spruce up the deck and the entrance to my home, but that’s about it.

It’s not that I don’t appreciate beautiful gardens; I’m just allergic to everything green.    

 

 

I’m one of those people who decorates the outdoors, but I’m in the Dog house as far as gardening is concerned…

My Grandmother was an amazing gardener. 

 

 

I remember visiting my Grandparents each summer as a child and she always had a big gardening project in progress.

 

 

“Cynthia,” she’d declare, “Japanese tea gardens are in, so we need to work on the plans.”  The next year, it would be more pea-gravel paths. 

 

 

On her death bed she said, “I’m so happy to have enjoyed my new gazebo.”  Seriously.

I guess you could say I did NOT inherit the gardening gene.

 

 

If you’re a Dog lover it doesn’t really matter if you’re a gardener.  There are plenty of gardening accessories on the market to please both you & your Dog.

Antique garden statuary is very collectible and there are no shortages of Hounds to be found.

 

 

Regal pairs of Dogs have been flanking the doorways to homes & castles for centuries.

If antiques are not in the budget, there are plenty of modern Dogs and reproductions up to the task.

Of couse, both gardens and Dogs require water to thrive.

 

 

 

While in Nashville, for the Heart of Country Antiques Show a few months ago, I spotted this funky Dog downspout in The Norwoods’ Spirit of America booth.

The most charming watering spot for Dogs can be seen at the Bayonet Farm in Holmdel, New Jersey.

 

 

The country estate, once owned by Dog lover Laura Harding, has a Dog watering troff on the grounds that she had made for her Dogs.

Note: I am still drooling over the cast stone Dog house shown above.  It was created by Regina-Andrew Designs.  It caught my eye at the High Point Furniture Market several years ago and I’m still kicking myself for not ordering it! 

 

I loved the old-world feel of the Dog house, but living in a condo without a yard, I passed on it. Of course, after Mr. IDH & I built our home there is plenty of room for the Dog House!
