Elizabeth Taylor Dame, Dogs and Diamonds: Part Deux

In celebration of the upcoming auction of The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor at Christie’s in New York, I’ve been taking a look Dame Elizabeth’s love life.

No, I’m not talking about her husbands: Hilton-Wilding-Todd-Fisher-Burton-Burton-Warner-& Fortensky…

Her four-legged loves!  Elizabeth Taylor’s loving & loyal Dogs.

By the 1960’s, Elizabeth Taylor had moved on from the fashionable Dog of the fifties, the Poodle, to Shih Tzus, Pekingese and Yorkies.

Is it just me, or does the Dog Elizabeth Taylor is holding in the car with Eddie Fisher look more like a Silky Terrier than a Yorkshire Terrier?

Eddie Fisher was history by 1964, but the Pup stayed in the actress’s life.

After all, Diamonds Dogs are a girl’s best friend!

Here’s the cute little Yorkie with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton…

Notice the ring on Elizabeth’s hand?  I’m sure it weighs more than the Yorkie!

“My Mother says I didn’t open my eyes until eight days after I was born, but when I did, the first thing I saw was an engagement ring. I was hooked!”    Elizabeth Taylor

Richard Burton fetched the “fab” diamond ring for Elizabeth Taylor in 1968:

While Richard Burton paid $305,000 for the whopping 33.19 carat diamond in 1968, Christie’s has placed an estimate of $2,500,000 to $3,000,000 on the diamond ring for the upcoming auction of The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor.

I promise you it will fetch more.

Dame Elizabeth & Richard Burton were quite a match.

Quarintine for Dame Elizabeth’s Dogs?  Forgetaboutit!

The yacht Beatrice of Bolivia became the world’s most expensive Dog kennel when the couple had it moored on the Thames River to avoid British quarantine regulations.

The poor pooches couldn’t leave the yacht.

Below, Elizabeth’s Shih Tzu “Tacht” watches the media frenzy ashore…

Elizabeth Taylor picked up her fashion sense while making films in Hollywood from the likes of award-winning costume designer Edith Head.

Elizabeth was a pedigreed Fashion Hound, wearing couture long before “fashion stylists” existed in Hollywood.

Dame Elisabeth loved her Dogs & Diamonds.

Louisiana Dog House: Creating a Built-In Dog Bed & Crate with Pet Friendly Fabrics

Today, I’m going to share a built-in Dog Bed created by designer Maria Barcelona for a cute Shih Tzu named Elf in Louisiana.

Maria originally created the Dog design for the Junior League of Mandeville Showhouse in 2007.

Like my Scottie Dog Taffy, the Shih Tzu’s Dog bed is located in the Laundry Room.

Here’s a view of Taffy’s built-in Dog Bed, decked out in fall colors…

  Custom Built In Dog Bed

I like to change the accessories & color scheme with the seasons, just to keep it interesting.  (I wouldn’t want my Dog to get bored, right?)

My laundry room was designed to maximize a small space and squeeze in as much storage as possible.  You can see the plan & design both here and here.

Elf, the Shih Tzu, however, lives in an 8700 square foot home, so I don’t think space was an issue.

Even with the luxury of plenty of square footage, the homeowner Lendon Noel wanted a special spot for her Dog in her new home.

No matter how big or small your home is, if you’ve got Pets in the house, creating a designated storage for Dog food, Pet supplies & Dog Toys can be a challenge.

Having a place to feed your Pets so you don’t trip over the Dog’s water bowl is also a good idea.  It’s even a better idea if you have Pet Friendly flooring!

And no matter how well trained you Dog is; accidents happen, so it’s a must to have a Pet friendly room where the Dog can stay when you’re not at home.

If you look closely at this built-in design, you’ll notice the designer did not use a cabinet, as I did for my Scottie Dog

She simply extended the length of the granite countertop to the wall, creating a space for the Dog’s bed.

The Built-in above is a less expensive solution (without the granite countertop, of course) and makes a great space to store a Dog crate if you do not want to have one built into your cabinetry.

To create a built-in Dog crate, designer Maria Barcelona installed an ornamental gate, omitting the need for a Dog crate all together.

I suggest reviewing your room’s layout carefully if you chose this option to avoid door issues. You must allow enough space for the crate door to open fully, or it could collide with the door to the room.

Crypton Fabric, known for its durability & high performance, was selected for the Shih Tzu’s custom Dog Bed.  The Posey pattern, shown above with Wiemaraner’s Candy & Chip, was designed by artist & photographer William Wegman
