So here’s a Dog’s guide to the Royal Wedding.

 

We’ll start with the Groom’s Grandparents…

 

 

 

 

Dogs have always played an important role in lives of the Royal family, especially Her Majesty the Queen.

 

 

Born Elizabeth Alexandria Mary, Queen Elizabeth II is famous for her love of Corgis. 

 

 

She even took Susan (her favorite Corgi) on her honeymoon in 1947 after her marriage to Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark.

 

 

Prince William’s Grandfather is officially known as HRH Phillip Mountbatten, Duke of Edinburgh.  He loves both horses & Hounds.

 

 

The Queen’s love of Corgis has made the Dog breed a Royal symbol of sorts…

A “Pin the Tail on the Corgi” game is even included in the Royal Wedding Party Pack created for the Save the Children Foundation to raise funds for children in honor of William & Kate’s big day. (It is available for downloading from the Save the Children.)

 

 

The Queen & Prince Phillip’s only daughter and William’s Aunt Anne is officially the Princess Royal.

 

 

Princess Anne loves horses and Dogs, especailly English Bull Terriers. 

 

 

 

  

  

Her Bull Terriers, however, are not fond of others. 

 

 

One of the Queen’s Corgis had to be put down after an attack by Dotty, a Bull Terrier of Princess Anne’s in 2003. 

 

 

The Princess was also convicted in 2002 under the Dangerous Dogs Act after two children were attacked by her Dogs in Windsor Great Park.

 

 

  

 

 

Princess Anne’s daughter Zara Anne Elizabeth Philips is the Queen’s eldest grand daughter. 

 

 

Zara is an accomplished equestrian and an avid Dog lover.   Thankfully, her pack seems to be well behaved and trained.

 

 

 

When Zara was 5 years old, she walked down the aisle with 4 year old Prince William at a Royal Wedding.

Zara was a flower girl at her Uncle Andrew’s Royal Wedding to Sara Ferguson.

 

 

 Zara’s own Royal Wedding will take place on June 30^th   to rugby player Mike Tindall in Edinburgh.

Albert Andrew Christian Edward is Queen Elizabeth’s second son.  Prince Charles is the heir and Andrew was the spare.

 

 

Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, loves Norfolk Terriers.  Bendicks, pictured below, was his favorite Dog.

 

 

 

 

It is said that Prince Andrew’s ex-wife Fergie named the Dog after her favorite brand of chocolates.  She might just be eating them at home on the day of William & Kate’s Royal Wedding because she did not get an invite.

 

 

Their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugine, share their love of Norfolk Terriers.

 

 

Beatrice had a handbag custom made with the likeness of her Dog Max, a Norfolk Terrier that she received as a Christmas gift at the age of 13.

 

 

 

When Max was missing in 2008, the Queen helped the devastated Princess Beatrice search for the Dog.

 

 

Lost Dog notices were posted, but little Max found his way home three weeks later.

 

 

The sisters, known for their gravity defying hat styles, are sure to make a fashion statement at the Royal Wedding.

 

 

 

The Queen’s youngest son, Edward Antony Richard Louis, is Prince Edward, the Earl of Essex.  Like his father he prefers Labradors and Royal hunting Hounds.

 

 

Married to Sophie Rhys-Jones, the Countess of Essex, their 7 year old daughter, Lady Louise Windsor will be a Bridesmaid (flower girl) in William & Kate’s wedding.

 

 

 

 

HRH Prince Charles, Charles Philip Arthur George, is the heir apparent to the throne and the Queen’s eldest son.

 

 

His marriage to Princess Diana did not have a happy ending like the fairytale.

 

 

 

 

 

Although Princess Diana privately referred to Camellia as the “Rottweiler,” Prince Charles’ second wife has a passion for English Jack Russell Terriers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Camilla gave an English Jack Russell Terrier named Tosca to Prince Charles, but he gave it back to her after it had a bloody fight with one of his other Dogs.

 

 

 

 

 

Prince Charles named his Dogs Tigger & Pooh.  Hmmmmm.   A fan of Winnie-the-Pooh?

 

 

Both Prince William & Prince Harry grew up surrounded by the Dogs of the Royal family.

Henry Charles Albert David, officially Prince Henry of Wales, aka “Harry,”  is often photographed with Dogs.

 

 

 

 

 

Prince William (William Arthur Philip Louis) had a black Labrador Retriever named Widgeon growing up, while Kate Middleton had a Cocker Spaniel named Otto.

 

 

 

The monarchy has a long history of sharing their lives, both public & private, with many Royal Hounds.

 

 

Whatever paw prints make their way into William & Kate’s hearts, we hope they live yappily ever after!
